Tu Bishvat Seder

19th January 2019 @ 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

TU BISHVAT SEDER, Shabbat, 19th January, 1 to 2:30 PM
Tu Bishvat is the fifteenth day of the month of Sh’vat, and was set aside in the first rabbinic code of law, the Mishnah (Rosh Ha-Shanah 1:1) as the New Year for Trees – Rosh Ha-Shanah la-Ilanot. Arguably, the first religious festival to highlight our responsibility for the environment, in addition to planting trees, it has become customary to hold a Tu Bishvat Seder, which centres on eating the ‘seven species’ associated with the land of Israel – wheat, barley, grape, fig, pomegranates, olive (oil), and date (honey) (Deuteronomy 8:8) – and/or fifteen different fruits, in honour of the date.
All are welcome. Please bring along a fruit/vegetable contribution.
